Bec Mitchell – How self-care can reduce symptoms

Bec Mitchell is another human who experienced growing up with allergies and intolerances, and jumped from specialist to specialist to get to the bottom of her symptoms. Now she knows what are her food triggers and completely understands the connection between mental health and gut symptoms.

Today’s guest is a lovely woman by the name of Bec Mitchell. She is probably one of the first adults I have met who completely understands what it feels like to have allergies and intolerances, and how it really effects your everyday life. She is a nice breath of fresh air, as she really looks at everything in a positive light.

She was practicing as a qualified psysio for a long seven years, before she decided to jump ship and work as a Corporate Wellness Consultant and Speaker. She uses evidence based wellbeing strategies for happiness and productivity and has completed additional certifications in Meditation, Pilates and Nutrition. And on top of all of that, she is also currently completing her Masters of Psychology and Neuroscience.

I hope you loved listening to Bec talk all about the connection of the mind and gut, after her long health journey as much as I did – enjoy.

Here’s a summary of what we spoke about:

  • What Bec was like growing up, and how she got bullied
  • What she studied at uni, and how she always knew it wasn’t for her
  • Her career journey and where she is now – balancing work and study
  • Where her symptoms started, and how she got help
  • The benefits of the FODMAP diet
  • Her long winded health journey and where she is now
  • How meditation, exercise and water are key in looking after your symptoms
  • The link between mental health and gut symptoms
  • Advice on how to manage unresolved symptoms
  • Tips to manage flare ups with a busy schedule
  • And more!

“The earliest I can remember feeling quite sick after eating a lot of the time, probably aligned closely to when I got bullied as a kid. It’s obvious now from what we know about mental health and gut health. It kind of makes sense. ”
